Working time recording

Working time recording means that employers must precisely document their employees' working hours. This applies to daily working hours, i.e. when an employee starts working, takes breaks and when the working day ends. This recording is important to ensure that legal requirements, such as maximum working hours and rest periods, are met.

Since a ruling by the Federal Labour Court, all companies in Germany have been required to systematically record the working hours of their employees. The aim is to precisely document overtime, breaks and working hours and to protect workers' health.

Modern companies often use digital time recording systems. These systems record the hours worked electronically and offer an easy way to correctly document working hours. They are particularly practical for companies with flexible working hours or shift work. Digital time recording makes it easier for employees and employers to keep track of working hours. For some industries and special groups of workers, such as minor employees, there are special regulations on recording working time. If employers fail to comply with their duty to record working hours, there is a risk of fines and other legal consequences.
